Generation
You must contact us if you propose to install or operate generating equipment, as the equipment could affect our network or require alterations to your connection. You should always use a recognised installer if you are planning to install generating equipment of any capacity.
The connection process varies with the size of generation equipment to be installed. The "Technical Guide to the Connection of Generation to the Distribution Network" (published by the Government in 2004 and to be updated shortly) provides a useful introduction.
Micro-generation up to 16 amps per phase
In general, you will need our consent to connect generating equipment to our network. However, in the case of generation rated up to 16 amps per phase, consent is not needed provided:
· Your installer notifies us before or at the time of commissioning the microgenerator in line with the requirements of the Engineering Recommendation G83/1. This document can be obtained from the Energy Networks Association (ENA). Please click here for a link to their site. These are recommendations for the connection of small-scale embedded generators, up to 16amp per phase in parallel with a public low-voltage distribution networks.
For each connection, an Installation Commissioning Confirmation form must be completed and submitted to us at the following address:

This form can be found within the G83/1 document.
